OK.
Today, six people just today asked me what exactly Team Swipe is.
And I will answer it right here.
Back in 2009, my brothers and I started to trick. If for some ABSURD reason you don't know what tricking is, here are some videos showing what it is.
I decided that instead of being random people who could trick, we should make a team or at least a group that people could recognize us by. The first idea was "Team Triple Threat" but that idea quickly died due to lack of popularity and because the team kept growing.
I came up with the idea of "Team Swipe." The name was simple, catchy and most importantly, interesting enough to pique the interests of others (which is why you are reading this!).
"Well, why 'swipe'? Why not something else?"
Good question, reader. And the answer comes in two parts.
One:
Swipe is a tricking term. When a tricker (one who tricks) jumps up and kicks with their dominant leg and LAND on that same leg, that is considered a "swipe." As a team, we did many swipe techniques and I felt that the swipe accurately portrayed who we are.
Two:
The second reason was...due to randomness. I was playing around with different ideas and "swipe" came to mind first. We could be under a different name today. And we might change the name down the road.
Q: So what is Team Swipe exactly?
A: Team Swipe is Minnesota-based martial arts tricking team that is recognized both nationally and internationally. We are a group of athletes that love to not only trick but to help spread the word about tricking to the masses. We are teachers in this new sport. We are people who push the human body to the limits in order to fly. At least without special effects and wires.
Q: Who is on Team Swipe?
A: Currently, there are 10 members. We are continuing to grow and we don't have a team limit. We will take all those who truly love tricking and what we stand for.
Q; How can I contact Team Swipe?
A: You can subscribe to Team Swipe on YouTube. We currently have three YouTube accounts for the three founders. Make sure to subscribe to them all!
1. http://www.youtube.com/user/TeamSwipeVM/featured
2. http://www.youtube.com/user/TEAMSWIPESM
3. http://www.youtube.com/user/TeamSwipeRM
Q: What are the goals of Team Swipe?
A: Well, the goals of Team Swipe are always changing. But we hope to perhaps be in the entertainment industry one day. We also have our own tricking goals.
I was the fifth person in history to do a Cheat 1260 Round Kick and the first person to do a standing Backside 1440 Hook Kick. But I'm not done. When I return to tricking (I'm injured at the moment) I hope to be the first person to break into 2000 degree spins with a Pop 2160 Hook kick. (Cheat 1260 and Backside 1440 videos are on YouTube)
We also want to make tricking and Team Swipe known worldwide. We are recognized but we'd love to be sponsored by Converse and other brands in order to further tricking and Team Swipe.
[SHAMLESS PLUG]
Team Swipe will be heading back to the National Karate Team Tournament but this time we're in the Champions division!
Last year, after winning first place for five years in a row, Team Swipe was upgraded to the
Champions Division, where we will compete with the best of the best. Only one team gets
upgraded every 5 years so we are very grateful for this opportunity!
Come cheer us on and see some awesome martial artists.
